Natalie & Jim’s Engagement at Longwood Gardens

Kim and I met up with Natalie & Jim at Longwood Gardens with the goal being to take some shots outside and then head into the gorgeous Christmas display at the gardens. Natalie & Jim were such troopers, they stuck it out in the freezing cold and even managed to keep smiling the whole time they were outside. We all had lots of smiles and laughs that evening and these two were just great to work with. They said “sure” when we asked them to go outside for the sunset and just went for it when we asked them to kiss in front of all the other guests at the gardens. Kim and I are certainly looking forward to the wedding which I’m sure won’t be that cold! I posted a few of my favorite shots below and hope you enjoy them.

Shannon and Dave Maternity Portraits

Kim and I met up with my good friends Shannon and Dave (the first wedding I photographed on my own) this past weekend to finally take some maternity portraits. We had this scheduled a few times and the ridiculous amounts of snow in the area forced us to cancel our previous attempts. That turned out to be a blessing since we were still able to go out and shoot in the snow at Batsto Village and it was one of the warmest days in weeks. We started out at their house and took a few shots of the new baby’s room which Dave and Shannon created. They own their own construction company and specialize in high end trim work which was noticeable by the amazingly detailed room. We took a few more portraits around the house in different rooms and then we hung out for little while waiting for the light to get better.

After catching up for a bit we all headed over to Batsto Village just outside Hammonton, NJ. It was a perfect day for photography there, warm, sunny, and snowy. Shannon had the idea for the picture with the umbrella which I really dig. We walked around a bit and just worked at a few different locations all while enjoying the gorgeous light that afternoon. Kim and I had a great time photographing them and we’re looking forward to the baby coming and more photos to be taken then.

Crushed Box Photo Blog – 1 year old

It’s now fall and it’s officially 1 year since I launched this photo blog for Crushed Box Photography. It’s been an incredible year. I’ve had the chance to meet so many amazing people, from brides and grooms, families, vendors, and other photographers, it has been awesome. I decided to start this business last year thinking that if I was able to get a few weddings and a few other portraits that I would be happy. Well, it’s gone well past my expectations. Every single person I’ve photographed this year has been so much fun. One of the main goals I had when starting was to make sure I was having fun as well as the people I was photographing. I decided that I was just going to be myself and do what I like to do and I couldn’t be happier that it seems to be working. I’ve had many clients tell me that they had so much fun when they were done having their picture taken and they even like the pictures too, haha. I want people to come to Crushed Box Photography not only for the photography but also because they enjoy my personality. I try to infuse every aspect of this business with that personality, from website, to meetings, to the day I take your pictures. It makes my job so easy when I have clients that I can joke around with and just be myself and I can only hope that makes it easier for them to be in front of the camera as well.

For the people that have followed my blog and website I’m sure you’ve noticed that I also tend to post quite a few nature photos that I’ve taken on my own for fun. I’ve decided to split that off to another website that I have going and I’ll be posting most of my nature pictures at www.naturesdomain.us/blog. I’ll still occasionally post some here but if you like to see that type of photography you can see much more of it at Natures Domain as well as some other photographers that will be joining that soon.

Since it’s been a while since I’ve updated the galleries on my site today is the day for that. You can view all the updated galleries in my portfolio section.

I’m really looking forward to another year of meeting more new great people and hopefully getting to photograph some again. Thanks to each one of you.

Erin & Sal’s Engagement at Batsto Village

What a couple! Erin contacted me as a reference from her friend Megan whose family Kim and I photographed this past summer. Erin and Sal were great together, they were fun, romantic, and great in front of the camera. I’ve only been on the receiving end of a camera lens a few times and I know some times it can be difficult to relax and just be yourself as if the camera wasn’t there, but when that happens the pictures become so much better. Erin and Sal did just that, after just a few minutes of photography they were relaxed and playing around together and having fun. I try to suggest to all our couples to do just that. Forget about the camera, just be into each other and every once in a while, I’ll ask you to look at the camera and smile – we gotta get some of those pictures to. Thank you Erin and Sal for being so great and here are a few of my favorites from your shoot at Batso Village. It was a hard choice, there were a ton of great shots.

Robin & Family

A friend of Robin’s gave her a portrait session as a gift so she met Kim and I on the Ocean City beach with her two girls Madison and Rylee. This was actually the third try for all of us because Robin’s family had a bad luck streak of broken bones (2 I believe) that forced us to reschedule but it was completely worth the wait and I have to thank Robin for hanging in there.

I think the girls came to play so that’s exactly what we did and it turned out awesome. Robin seemed so excited that her girls were having fun. She had asked us for some not-so-posed pictures as she already had plenty of that style, we were happy to oblige. Rylee, the little one was hilarious, at one point specifically requesting that Kim take her picture and kicking me to the curb, haha, which was fine because I was able to get a few great shots of Madison then. We ended the evening with a gorgeous sunset and a few silhouettes of the girls playing in the ocean. Over all it was another great family portrait on the beach. Now on to the pics:

Bar Harbor Maine Trip

This past summer, which I guess summer will be here again soon (man time goes fast) I went to Bar Harbor Maine with Kim. We just went for a long weekend and had a great time. The weather was unbelievably perfect and we had a great time. As I said in my previous post, one evening we went to the top of Cadillac Mountain to photograph the sunset and Kim with the sunset and the clouds came in real low, right above the water and made for an amazing view. It was like being on top of the world and you couldn’t see the ground, yet we weren’t really that far up in elevation. It was amazing to see and I’m so glad I had my camera and Kim. Check it out:

Taken in Bar Harbor Maine on top of Cadilac Mountain. The clouds came in low over the water and made for an incredibly dramatic view. Kim was freezing, but I think it was well worth it.

I haven’t posted in a while so I figured I’d post something quick from my Flickr page. This is a shot from a Bar Harbor Maine trip Kim and I went on this past summer. This was taken at sunset on the top of a mountain and the clouds rolled in under us, it was pretty amazing like we were on top of the world. I’ll try to post more from the trip soon.

I posted a few pics from this shoot a while ago, but here is a whole set of images from the family portrait that I photographed with Kim for KGM Expression. It was back in the fall and the kids all seemed to be having a blast. They were asking us if they could jump, and run and play and we were like “of course”, which made for some great shots.

Ali – Summer Surfing

Well at least it didn’t take me a full year to post these shots. Last summer I went to Ocean City, NJ to photograph Ali surfing. The waves weren’t the best, but the light rocked and we got some really great stuff anyway. I really dig the B&W and Duo-Tone shots, they really give a good look to a surfing picture I think.
